Brandy Considered for the Role of Precious?

November 7, 2009 - Leave a Response

That would have been interesting!  Rap-up.com reportsActress Gabourey “Gabby” Sidibe is getting rave reviews for her portrayal as Claireece Precious Jones in Precious: Based on the Novel ‘Push’ by Sapphire. But before the 26-year-old newcomer was cast, another unlikely actress was thought of for the role.

Sapphire, the author whose novel inspired the much-buzzed-about film, told Entertainment Weekly about the many offers she received and eventually turned down to take her book to the big screen.

One of them came from a producer who thought R&B singer and “Moesha” star Brandy should play the obese, illiterate New York City teenager. “I remember this one producer told me that he had found Precious—and it was going to be Brandy,” a shocked Sapphire said. “Excuse me? I literally almost hung up on him.”

She even received an offer from pop icon Madonna. “Then Madonna wanted to produce it. I was like, ‘Madonna?’ I don’t think this is her film.”

Filmmaker Lee Daniels (Monster’s Ball) eventually won the rights to the movie, casting Sibide as Precious and comedian Mo’Nique as her abusive mother, Mary Jones. Precious is now open in select cities.

Ray J to Produce Norwood Family Reality Show

October 28, 2009 - Leave a Response

Vibe reports…

Ray J is keeping it in the fam for an upcoming reality TV show–not his mistress-seeking dating series, but a newly inked venture set to costar family members, including sister Brandy. In a recent interview with VIBE, Ray J revealed that he’ll be executive producing the show, but did not give an expected air date. The reality show is another collaboration with 51 Minds Entertainment, the company behind VH1’s For the Love of Ray J, which followed the multifaceted singer/actor/producer’s high jinks from Los Angeles to Las Vegas in a quest to find love. “Putting my family on–they’ve been in the game before me so getting them together as one team, it’s going to be explosive and something special,” Ray J told VIBE. “People can kind of see where we’ve been and where we’re going and our connection together.” Ray J has previously joined forces with Brandy on an assortment of projects, including a role as her little cousin D-Money on Moesha. Their father Willie Norwood has enjoyed some success in the gospel music scene with his album Bout It peaking at No. 13 on the Billboard Gospel Chart back in 2001. He’s paved his own way, too, with five studio albums and his For The Love of Ray J series, which begins its second season Monday (November 2). Ray J is excited and optimistic about the future project he’ll embark on with his nearest and dearest. “I’ve had great success with my family in other things so I’m looking forward to it.” –Caroline Acosta with additional reporting by Jamal Munnerlyn

Check this out!

UrbanBridgez.com recently caught up with Sean from from the production team Kadis & Sean for our anniversary interview series, starting November 2nd! We asked him about the upcoming Brandy album they’re currently working on. “We’re really going in!” You’ll hear and can expect a much deeper and much more authentic Brandy. Similar to what she was in the beginning, but not as commercialized. It’s raw, there’s energy there!”

Sean also says about working with Brandy on her upcoming album, “It’s real music, real lyrics…She’s very much involved! In everything we’ve done (for her project) and will be. Everything we’ve done has been from scratch, so she’s very involved in the creative process. So you’ll be able to feel the music more so than just listen to it sonically.”

The production teams artist Audio Push, was scheduled to release their mixtape “The SOUNDCHECK” yesterday, however it’s still not on their official MySpace: www.myspace.com/audiopush Brandy can be heard singing the hook on the song “Aviator.” The huge hit “Teach Me How To Jerk” as well as the “Ice Cream Paint Job Remix,” is also featured on the mixtape.

Read the full interview with Kadis and Shawn on November 6th on UrbanBridgez.com In other Brandy news, she will introduce her new alter-ego Bran’Nu on Timbaland’s upcoming “Shock Value II” being release on November 23rd.
